Hatching: One of the most
common ways for an artist to
suggest volume and depth, or the
depiction of shadow, by which
closely drawn parallel lines are
grouped together.
In the case of cross-hatching, the
parallel lines are crossed by other
sets of lines which create a dense
grid-like pattern.
