STAKEHOLDER GROUPMAP WORKSHEET
ACTION PLANNING TO IMPROVE STAKEHOLDER SUPPORT
- What is their priority, compared to that of the other groups? How critical are they to
the project’s success? Not all client groups are in need of equal attention. - Characterize each stakeholder group into this matrix:
- For the Fence-Sitters, how do you ensure they stay on board and, if possible, assist the
change? - For the Foes, what reservations and risks would they see? How can you deal with these
risks? - For the Foreign, how will you find out where they stand?
- What are your next steps to improve your stakeholder situation?

SECTION 5 TOOLS FORLEADINGCHANGE 159
- Already support the
change. - Tend to spend too
much time with
these groups, but
cannot be ignored.- Could support the
change or not,
depending on the
work you do with
them. - The most important
group to work with
and sell the change
to.- Will probably never
support the change. - Don’t butt your head
against a brick wall. - If you have too many
of these, you need to
get more support or
reconsider the
change.- Don’t know where
these groups stand. - Need to find out
where they stand;
ignorance is not bliss,
but dangerous.
