DRAWING MANGA BOYS
Here’s a much heavier look for a sci-fi or period story. The broad cuffs and collar
have a military look, with a double-breasted front and a narrow belt at the waist.
The boots are sturdy-looking and reinforced with steel. The yellow neckerchief gives
a dashing touch of color to the coat, which is a drab, somber green.MILITARY gREATCOAT
Draw a basic stick
figure with lines for
bones, circles for
joints, and triangles
for pelvis and feet.
Start his clothing
with a jacket with
a high collar and
epaulettes on the
shoulders. Add the
central opening.Next add the sleeves.
Make these fairly baggy
around the elbows, and
give them large fold-
back cuffs. At this stage,
also add the detailing
around the cuffs, at
the collar, and on the
epaulettes.Add the detailed
double-button trim,
then add a belt
around the cinched-
in waist.
Now refine the hands,
and start to create the
swirling skirt of the
greatcoat. Give the
belt a big buckle.
