n November 10, Cli ord the Big Red Dog
arrives in movie theaters and on
Paramount+. The comedy is based on the popular
children’s book series of the same
name by Norman Bridwell. The
fi rst book was published in

  1. It is about a giant dog
that belongs to a girl named
    Emily Elizabeth.
In the fi lm, Emily Elizabeth
receives tiny puppy Cliff ord from
a magical animal rescuer. To her

surprise, the dog quickly grows to be 10 feet tall.
Emily Elizabeth, her uncle, and Cliff ord then end
up on a wild adventure in New York City.
Emily Elizabeth is played by Darby Camp,
age 14. She told The Week Junior that
Cli ord is a “heartwarming, sweet
movie” that combines “sentimental
moments and fun moments.” Camp’s
grandparents read her Cli ord books
when she was young. “I would be a
little jealous of Emily that she got to
have a giant red dog,” she said.

Animators used computer-generated imagery
to create Cliff ord. He had a unique stand-in during
fi lming. “There was a giant 10-foot puppet, and
two men were controlling it,” Camp said. The
puppeteers had studied dog movements, so “it
felt like there was an actual dog there,” she said.
“It was really awesome.”
Since people have been reading Cli ord for
decades, the movie is perfect for fi lmgoers of all
ages, Camp said. She added that it has valuable
lessons, including “how important it is to love one
another and accept people for their diff erences.”
