- Identify Your Favorite Procrastination Beliefs
The following is a list of common beliefs and misperceptions of
procrastinators (Bliss, 1983). Identify your top five cop-outs and write
a challenge for each of them.
- It’s unpleasant.
- It’s not due yet.
- I work better under pressure.
- Maybe it will take care of itself if I just don’t do anything.
- It’s too early in the day.
- It’s too late in the day.
- I don’t have any papers with me.
- It’s difficult.
- I don’t feel like doing it now.
- I have a headache.
- Delay won’t make much difference.
- It may be important, but it isn’t urgent.
- It might hurt.
- I really mean to do it, but I keep forgetting.
- Somebody else may do it if I wait.
- It might be embarrassing.
- I don’t know where to begin.
- I need a good stiff drink first.
- I’m too tired.
- I’m too busy right now.
- It’s a boring job.
- It might not work.
- I’ve got to tidy up first.
- I need to sleep on it.
- We can get by a little longer as is.
- I don’t really know how to do it.
- There’s a good TV program on.
- As soon as I start, somebody will probably interrupt.
- It needs further study.
- My horoscope indicates this is the wrong time.
- Nobody is nagging me about it yet.
- If I do it now, they’ll just give me something else to do.
- The weather’s lousy.
- It’s too nice of a day to spend doing that.
- Before I start, I think I’ll take a break.
