THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS
underscored the incredible importance
of great health services. But the leaders
at CareCentrix, a company that helps pa-
tients age or heal in the home, understand
that to deliver exceptional service, their
employees need the same great care they
provide their 26 million patients.
“Our mission is to heal,” says John
Driscoll, CEO of CareCentrix. “And if our
team members are going to heal and
help our patients and providers, we’ve
got to support them first.”
Through advanced analytics and
tech-enabled care, the Hartford-based
company improves patients’ experiences
with home health solutions, like telehealth
visits and at-home monitoring, which can
help produce better health outcomes and
reduce overall costs of care.
When Driscoll took the helm at
CareCentrix in 2013, he began making
radical changes, including freezing
executive team wages and doubling the
hourly wage of frontline workers. Decisions
such as these have improved the lives of
CareCentrix’s team members and helped
decrease employee turnover by half.
Beyond fair pay and affordable
benefits, the company invests in unique
programs that support employee
well-being. The CareCentrix Cares
Fund, which is funded by employees
for employees, delivers financial assis-
tance to team members experiencing
hardships and has distributed more
than $650,000 to more than 350 staff
members since 2015. The company’s
Voice of the Employee team, a cross-
departmental, hundred-member unit,
develops programs to help its work-
force stay healthy, have fun, give back
to local communities, and encourage
professional and personal develop-
ment. And CareCentrix made sure to
prioritize these programs even after
employees began working remotely
as a result of the pandemic, by hosting
online exercise classes and virtual
desktop garden parties, as well as
community service events.
“COVID has taught us how much
more innovative our programs can be,”
says Driscoll. “We don’t want to just
make things virtual—we want to make
them better.”
And these improvements are paying
off. According to a recent employee
engagement survey, 78.5% of CareCentrix
team members felt that the company cul-
ture supported their health and well-being,
a 20% increase since 2017.
“Building a great culture is like building
a cathedral—you’re never really done,”
says Driscoll. “We’re just getting started
making CareCentrix an even better
place to work.” ■
