The Times Magazine 107
Beauty insiders love IT Cosmetics
CC Cream and this is a pretty
good alternative. It covers well,
hides skin blemishes, uneven
pigmentation and pores and can
be built up to give full coverage.
The additional SPF is handy, too.

BYE BYE POST-
BLEMISH MARKS
Glow Hub the
Scar Slayer (£14;
glowhub.com)
Check out Glow Hub’s
brilliant new budget
serum range. This one
is a blend of vitamin C to
brighten brown pigmentation
marks and tranexamic acid to
reduce the redness left after a
breakout, spots, ingrown hair
and insect bites.

THE AMERICAN
CULT CLEANSER
Aveeno Face Calm +
Restore Nourishing
Oat Cleanser
(£7.99; boots.com)
This US cult cleanser
is finally available in
the UK as part of the
bestselling Calm + Restore range.
Oats contain an FDA-approved
skin-calming active and this
entire range is loaded with it.
But before you slather on a
cream, first think about gentle,
no-stripping cleansing – and this
is that on a brilliant budget.

THE
PERFECT
PALETTES
NYX
Professional
Makeup
Ultimate Shadow Palettes
(£16; boots.com)
These eye palettes have a range
of finishes from metallic to soft
shimmer, matte to satin in six
collections of tonal shades, but
the standout that suits all is the
Warm Neutrals for the perfect
party smoky eye, everyday
neutrals and subtle crease cut.
There’s enough depth in the
palettes too for liners.

THE HIGH-
STREET
GLOWTION
Indeed Labs
Gluconolactone
10% Exfoliating
Toner (£19.99;
lookfantastic.com)
If you want a healthy glowy skin
you need to exfoliate (and no,
not every day), so be sure to
choose a super-gentle lotion to
swipe over your skin. This is a
polyhydroxy acid, which means it
is a larger molecule for slower
absorption (less stinging, less
sensitivity, less redness), but it
still works a treat. I like mine
worn overnight to wake to
smoother, less flaky and
congested skin.

THE LIP LINER AND
COLOUR IN ONE
Zara Stiletto Lipstick (£9.99,
in store only; refills, £5.99,
available at zara.com)
This superfine, demi-matte
lipstick is perfectly designed
because it’s fine enough to
line but soft enough to fill in
and add colour. It has a high
pigment pay-off but a hydrating,
serum-like formula. It’s little
wonder when you consider
that make-up maven and
artist Diane Kendal, who has
previously worked with Calvin
Klein and Armani on their
make-up, helped to create it.

SAVER FOR
SENSITIVE SKINS
SVR Sensifine
Hydra-Crème (£15;
uk.labo-svr.com)
If you don’t know
SVR skincare it’s
well worth trying
and buying. This is
the hero product from
its sensitive skin range,
which also has three different
cleansers, hydrating gel, mask and
rich balm. The entire range is
loaded with skin-identical fats
and humectants to calm and
repair sensitive skin.

THE BUDGET
BLUSHER
Honest Beauty
Creme Cheek
Blush (£16;
boots.com)
Cream blush is
having a moment
because it gives a glow and
colour to cheeks and can last
longer than powder. This cream
blush, which comes in four
shades, adds impact without
spiciness and blends well both
with fingertips and brushes.

THE POLLUTION
PROTECTOR
Marks & Spencer
Glow Protection
Day Cream (£16;
marksandspencer.com)
Marks & Spencer’s
own-brand skincare goes
from strength to strength
with this new collection.
The Glow Protection Day Cream
has stable vitamin C and an SPF
to protect your skin every day
from pollution and ultraviolet
light. It is more of a lotion than
a cream, but is a good addition
to any city-dweller’s morning
routine in winter. n
