WHY QPR?
My dad was a fan, my
uncle Colin had a trial
for them and I could
walk to the ground. I’d
go down the Harrow
Road and Scrubs Lane
and on to South Africa
Road. Also, some of the
players used to take
football lessons at my
school. I once had a
goal disallowed by Ron
Springett.

EARLY MEMORIES?
I started going to
games in 1966. The
South Africa Road end
wasn’t even built then,
so we had to go
through a building site
to get to the boys’ pen.
Sometimes I’d go with

defended so well for 85
minutes.” That sums us
up. There can’t be
“worst of times” for us.

MY FAVOURITE PLAYER
The entertainer Rodney
Marsh. He took a
penalty once. The
goalkeeper thought
he’d saved it, but in fact
he’d caught Rodney’s
boot before Rodney
rolled the ball in. The
referee disallowed it.
Years later, I was on the
radio with him and
asked if he meant it.
“Might have done,
might have done.. .”

MY LEAST FAVOURITE
PLAYER
Alan Wilks. He was seen
as a new Rodney
Marsh. He was tall and
gangly and I felt really
sorry for him. He
scored five goals in a
League Cup match and
the crowd were still
having a go.

MARK WARBURTON?
Not at first, but I’ll really
stand by him now. He’s
got the team playing
together, he uses the
loan market brilliantly
and buys astutely on a
small budget.

CHARLIE AUSTIN’S
RETURN WAS A TURNING
POINT ...
Absolutely. He rarely
starts, but he owns that
dressing room. Getting
him back was a real
statement of intent.
He’s not the best
footballer in the world,
but he’s invariably in
the right place at the
right time, a real
poacher. And I
remember Charlie
picking John Terry up
and turning him upside
down.

my dad, sometimes I’d
go by myself, but what I
really enjoyed was the
quality of swearing.

BEST OF TIMES?
A recent one:
promotion to the
Premier League in 2011.
I still can’t believe they
gave Neil Warnock the
elbow so soon after.

WORST OF TIMES
I know loads of Chelsea
fans and they get so
upset when they lose.
We’re not like that for
obvious reasons. The
relegations were hard,
but I remember Alan
Shearer talking about
us after we’d lost, yet
again, to a goal in the
last five minutes. He
said: “But they
