In The Secret of Happiness, Billy quoted Frank Laubach as say-
ing, “Prayer at its highest is a two-way conversation; and for me,
the most important part is listening to God’s replies.”
Avoid Grievous Peril
We started this chapter with a quote from à Kempis about the
“grievous peril” of being held in high esteem. Billy was thoroughly
aware of that danger. “I feel that people have put me on too high
a pedestal,” he said in a New York Timescolumn. “We do the same
with other leaders,” Billy explained. “I know, however, that I am
not as good as some people think I am. I have seen men in the
depths of wickedness and I have thought to myself, ‘There I go
except by the grace of God.’”
Points to Ponder
BILLY GRAHAM:
God measures people by the small dimensions of humility
and not by the bigness of their achievements
or the size of their capabilities.
THE BIBLE:
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture,
“Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
