Cutting Sheet Goods with a Circular Saw
T
HIS FIXTURE FOR CUTTINGsheet goods with a circular saw is
simple to make and gives accurate results. Attach a 4-ft. or 8-ft.
length of 1x2 lumber to the middle of a piece of plywood that is the
same length and about 12 in. wide. With the saw’s base bearing against
the 1x2, which is the fence of the fixture, rip off the edges of the ply-
wood. You’re done. Attach this jig to anything at any angle, putting the
edge of the jig right on the cut line. You will know exactly where
your saw will cut. Splintering is eliminated underneath the guide. Rip
one edge at 45 ̊ if you like—it could come in handy.
The accuracy of this fixture depends on a straight fence, so pay
attention when you attach the 1x2. Use a 4-ft. or 8-ft. straightedge, or
just use the factory edge of a piece of plywood.
