It is relatively easy to replace a bad capacitor if it’s externally
mounted. It is more difficult to replace an internal capacitor or to
replace a bad starter switch, but these jobs are still within the capabili-
ty of most people who are handy. Always make sure the motor is fully
disconnected from the power system before attempting any repair.
Replacement parts are available through most electric-motor service
shops. The value of the motor’s capacitor is usually stamped on the
capacitor and is given in terms of microfarads (mfd) and operating
voltage, such as 125 volts or AC.
