A Work Holder That Swivels

I

RECENTLY NEEDED A SWIVEL-TYPEwork holder—the kind carvers
use. Because the price for a commercial holder was about $125, I
decided to make my own with a trailer-hitch ball and some shop
scraps, as shown. The fixture is simply two pieces of hardwood that
lock the hitch ball in place when a bolt is tightened. Line the hole in
the top board with leather so it will grip better. For the workpiece
plate, weld a large washer or disc to the nut, or attach it with screws
tapped into the holes in the nut.
