loan blend n
a type of borrowingin which one part of a word is borrowed from a second
language and the other part belongs to the speaker’s native language. For
example, in the German spoken by some people in Australia, gumbaum
means gumtree.


loan translation n
also calque
a type of borrowing, in which each morpheme or word is translated into
the equivalent morpheme or word in another language.
For example, the English word almightyis a loan translation from the Latin
omnipotens:
Omni + potens
all mighty =almighty
A loan translation may be a word, a phrase, or even a short sentence,
e.g. the English beer gardenand academic freedomare loan translations
of the German Biergarten and akademische Freiheit.
