describes a speech sound (a consonant) which is produced by the back
of the tongue against the very end of the soft palate (the uvula), or by a
narrowing in the vocal tract near the uvula.
The /r/ used by some speakers in the northeast of England, and by some
speakers of Scottish English, is a uvular roll [r].
