cient and self-disciplined, you may be proud of
your ability to accomplish a great deal—and you
might well take on too much, determining that
anything and everything requires your utmost
attention. The truth is that by doing too much,


STAY FOCUSED AND IN RHYTHM

Allowing yourself to become too casual
at work can cause you to slip into poor
time-management practices. On the
other hand, pressing too hard can burn
you out. Develop and maintain a good
tempo by:


  • Avoiding casual conversations
    at work that will put you behind
    schedule

  • Letting people know up front that
    you’re consciously guarding your
    time

  • Knowing when to step on the gas
    or ease off to meet deadlines for
    what’s on your list

  • Scheduling mini-breaks and vaca-
    tions to establish the pace you want
    for your health
