  • Macrovascular (atherosclerotic plaque)

  • Coronary arteries → (MI‘s)

  • Cerebral arteries → (strokes)

  • Peripheral vessels → (ulcers, amputations, infection)

  • Microvascular (capillary damage)

  • Retinopathy

  • Neuropathy

  • Nephropathy


Whether it is type 1 or type 2 if hyperglycemia remains uncontrolled, serious long term


adverse effects can result both macrovascular (large Vessels) and microvascular (small


vessel damage).


Large vessel damage is related to deposition of atherosclerotic plaque in the vessels
