NIKON Z
£5,299, nikon.com

Canon and Sony have built something of a lead
over Nikon in the mirrorless race over the past
few years, but this reimagined flagship sees
Nikon hitting an incredible second wind. It’s an
important camera: the Z9 marks the end of
Nikon’s pro DSLR output, with the company
putting all of its weight behind the stacked
45.7MP full-frame sensor inside, and it may also
mark the death of the physical shutter in
high-end cameras. There are some big headline
features, like 8K 30fps video (with 60fps due
via a firmware update), outrageous tracking AF,
a fully sealed magnesium alloy body that feels
utterly unbreakable, and 20fps burst shooting,
which can go for over 1,000 frames. What’s
perhaps most remarkable is the price. For all
that this beats last year’s D6 in terms of
features, it vastly undercuts its spend.

T3 SAYS: As professional as a camera body gets.

DJI ACTION 2
From £455, dji.com

Whereas the familiar frame of the original DJI
Osmo Action made it look for all the world like
a GoPro clone, this sequel – which, like the
company’s latest gimbal, entirely drops the
Osmo name – goes in a different direction. For
a start, it’s really, really small. It’s easily
expandable with extra batteries, additional
screens, and more. It’s mountable just about
anywhere using magnets, including onto your
own clothing, and (at least in its base combo)
the Action 2 is far cheaper than a Hero 10 Max.
That said, it doesn’t quite have the same
imaging grunt as GoPro’s big boy. The Action 2
tops out at 4K 120fps, and its stabilising
functions don’t work at higher resolutions or
frame rates, though its 180-degree tilt correction
does beat GoPro’s measly 45.

T3 SAYS: An action cam for those who really
need a small one.
