THE ULTIMATE KITCHEN GIZMOS

Wolf Gourmet offers small appliances to make friends jealous

When you think of high-end kitchen
gadgets, names such as KitchenAid,
Bosch, Magimix and Sage might spring to
mind. But they are not premium at all
compared to Wolf Gourmet. Dedicated to
making the very best version of any given
popular kitchen gizmo, Wolf Gourmet is
uncompromising on design. And price.
Rather than adding flash features and
smart connectivity, Wolf Gourmet
concentrates on the core functionality of
each device. So about the most modern
feature on the blender (£599.99) you
see here is the small LED screen, which
shows how long it’s been blending for, as
well as speed and chosen setting.
However, the important bit is that the
2.4 horsepower motor can push the
blades to over 210mph, thereby blending
everything from sauces and smoothies to
home-made peanut butter. Despite the
jet engine-like qualities of the blades, it’s
also surprisingly quiet.
The four-slice toaster (£399.98),
meanwhile, offers gapingly wide bread
slots and offers precision toasting, with
self-centering bread guides ensuring even
results every time. As with the blender,
it’s not just the performance that
impresses. It’s also the amount of metal
involved in its construction, and the sheer
heft of the beast.

Wolf Gourmet was born from a family
of brands that has existed since 1945.
First, Sub-Zero was founded in Madison,
Wisconsin, in 1945. As you may have
guessed, it made freezers. Sub-Zero
pioneered ‘built-in’, then integrated
refrigeration and wine storage.
Later, in 2000, Wolf was added as
an arm of the company devoted to
making things hot rather than cold with
a range of similarly premium, battleship-
built products. Finally, in 2019 Wolf
Gourmet was launched, offering ‘small or
countertop luxury appliances built to the
same exacting standards of Sub-Zero &
Wolf large appliances’.
Wolf Gourmet doesn’t exactly rush
new products to market. For several
years, in fact, the toasters and blenders
were its collection. However for 2021, it’s
got two new devices (see left). They also
follow the same ethos of being built to
exacting standards and the same, super-
heavyweight build quality. And they also,
it must be said, follow the same Sub-Zero
and Wolf tradition of being very, very
spendy indeed. Although they probably
don’t put it like that themselves. We love
their appliances, but they are not the kind
of thing that you find going cheap on
Amazon. You do get a five-year warranty
for your pennies, though.

WOLF GOURMET
2-SLICE TOASTER
This is identical to the 4-slice
toaster apart from the one
obvious difference. Able to
handle even the thickest
doorsteps, it toasts across ‘the
full continuum of the toast-
browning spectrum from
crisp and pale to dark brown
with a distinct crunch.’
