HOW DOES THE TEST WORK?



  • PT—prothrombin time—checks for prothrombin deficiency, warfarin ther-
    apy 11 to 15 seconds.

  • INR—monitors effectiveness of warfarin therapy.

  • PTT—partial thromboplastin time—monitors effectiveness of therapeutic
    range for heparin, 25 to 38 seconds.

  • Bleeding time—the amount of time necessary to stop bleeding from a small
    break made in the skin—3 to 7 minutes.

  • WBC—white blood cell count

  • RBC—red blood cell count

  • Hemoglobin

  • Hematocrit

  • MCV—mean corpuscular volume

  • MCH—mean corpuscular hemoglobin
