“Wake up, watch the sunrise, do some
meditating, drink some coffee, do some
work and then some songwriting,” Australian
singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett explained
to Apple Music about how her third studio
album came together in lockdown conditions
in 2020.

- Barnett largely wrote this album in a
friend’s empty Melbourne apartment, where
she lived alone. - The album was recorded from late 2020
to early 2021 in Sydney and Melbourne. - “I feel that quietness is often a reflection
of the writing, but also I think that I was just
craving a quieter sound,” Barnett reflected
about the album’s mood. - She said that the track “Sunfair Sundown”
was “inspired by a party with friends – one of
those nights you feel an overwhelming sense
of gratitude for friendship and connection.” - According to Barnett, the song “Write a
List of Things to Look Forward To” is “about
gratitude, but it is also about connections in
life, this idea of life and death”.
