WHY PETERBOROUGH
UNITED?
In April 1976, when I
was six, my Shropshire-
based Uncle Trevor
visited us in
Peterborough. Posh
were playing
Shrewsbury Town, so
we all went. It was
mesmerising for a
young boy and I was
instantly hooked.
EARLY MEMORIES
By the Eighties, I was
going regularly with my
neighbour Kevin
Bradley. We stood on
The Glebe, which was
then an open terrace.
It’s a stand now, but I
still go there. It’s where
I belong.
MY
CLUB
MY FAVOURITE PLAYER
Mick Halsall. A hard-
working midfielder, a
captain who led us to
two promotions and
when he did score
goals they were
spectacular. I went
from watching him as a
boy to interviewing him
and he turned out to be
every inch the good
guy I’d hoped for.
MY LEAST FAVOURITE
PLAYER
I love him, but it was a
shambles when Barry
Fry was manager. One
of his signings was
Miguel de Souza. After
we’d lost at Colchester
United in the EFL
Trophy, I was in the
bowels of Layer Road
and he walked to me
and said: “Do you know
where the bar is?” I was
so offended he wanted
a beer after that, I said:
“It’s above the goal you
keep missing,” and
walked on.
CAN PETERBOROUGH
STAY UP?
I’m not optimistic. Like
2013, we weren’t ready,
we had no fit orthodox
striker and we still
haven’t. We keep
conceding goals and
we’ve changed
goalkeepers. We are
what we are: a small
club that attracts small
crowds.
DARREN FERGUSON’S
NEW DEAL. GOOD NEWS?
Oh yes. He’s a genius.
His football is
incredibly attacking, I
love watching it and he
gives chances to
younger players such
as Harrison Burrows
and Ronnie Edwards.

A trophy at Wembley
BEST OF TIMES
Not many Posh fans
would agree, but
winning the 2013-14
Johnstone’s Paint
Trophy at Wembley. I
just wanted that feeling
of seeing my captain
going up the steps and
holding a trophy aloft.
WORST OF TIMES
Getting relegated from
the Championship with
54 points in 2013. It was
a miracle that shouldn’t
have been allowed, but
I feared the worst
earlier in the season
when we loaned
George Boyd to Hull
the day after winning
5-1 at Millwall. It
punched the guts out
of the club. We’ve only
just got back.
