- Streptomycin adds nothing to the other three drugs in the initial phase,
but it is advantageous in extensive disease with severe bladder
symptoms; because it has a high concentration in urine.
Recent methods for diagnosis of tuberculosis
(A)Bacteriologic:
1- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
Advantages:
- Capable of detection of single organism in biological fluid
- Can differentiate between typical and atypical mycobacteria.
Disadvantages:- Needs experience and equipments
- Liable to contamination
2- Radiometric detection method e.g. Bactec 460 system
(B) Immunochemical:
1- Adenosine deaminase activity (ADA)
2- ELISA
