Implantation of the fertilized ovum outside of the uterine cavity, such as a fallopian
tube, an ovary, the abdomen, or the cervix uteri (See Fig. 8–14.)
Ectopic pregnancy occurs in approximately 1% of pregnancies, most commonly in the
oviducts (tubal pregnancy). Some types of ectopic pregnancies include ovarian, intersti-
tial, and isthmic.
Presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity, such as the pelvis or ab-
domen (See Fig. 8–15.)
