FOR FURTHER STUDY:
Prophecy can come from three different sources:
- The human spirit: Jeremiah 23:16; Ezekiel 13:2,3
- Evil and lying spirits: Isaiah 8:19-20; I Kings 22:22; Matthew 8:29;
Acts 16:17 - The Holy Spirit: II Samuel 23:2; Jeremiah 1:9; Acts 19:6; 21:11
This is why we must judge prophecies to determine whether or not they are from the Holy Spirit.
The Bible gives many examples of Old and New Testament prophets for you to study to increase
your understanding of prophets and the gift of prophecy. As you study these references try to
distinguish between those who had the special gift of being a prophet [leadership] from those
who had just the gift of prophecy.
