60-watt halogen video lights. These are mounted on a 4-foot bar with a han-
dle grip in the center so you can hold it with one hand and shoot with the
other (I had this made). The halogen light is a little bit cool, but if you set
your white balance to open shade you won’t even notice it. Make sure you
use the diffusers or the light will appear too hot and contrasty.
Split Lighting. A less common but very dramatic technique is split light-
ing. Simply put, you literally split a face in two between light and shadow. I
don’t use this technique a lot because it can look shadowy, sinister, and dark.
