Verbs with hamzah
There are verbs where hamzah occurs as one of the radicals. These are
called, َأْلـ ِف ْع ُل ْلـ َم ْه ُمو ُز ,
al-fi
lu l-mahmu ̄zu.
30.1 Verbs with initial hamzah
Verbs with hamzah as the first radical, و ِلَّأْلـ َم ْه ُمو ُز ْ َلأ
َأْل ِف ْع ُل , are con-
jugated on the same principles as the regular strong verbs, with some
exceptions. (See below and the conjugations in Appendix 2.)
30.2 When the imperative is preceded by the conjunction َو wa... or ...فـ َ
fa..., the long vowel after the initial hamzah disappears, i.e. is replaced
by suku ̄n: ...َو ْ أ wa-
