Teach Yourself Visually Knitting

(Michael S) #1
Circular needles are basically needle tips
connected by a plastic or nylon cord.
Used mainly for knitting tubular items,
they come in a variety of materials and
lengths. Whether you use wood, metal,
or plastic is up to you. The circumfer-
ence of what you are going to knit
determines what length needle you can
use, and your pattern will specify the
length. The key to casting on to a circu-
lar needle is ensuring that the stitches
do not get twisted.

If the cord on your circular needle is very curly and hard to manage, try immersing
it in hot water for a minute or two, and then straighten it. It will be much easier to
work with.

1 Cast on stitches in the same manner you would with straight needles, using
the method of your choice.

2 When you have cast on the correct number of stitches, make sure that your
stitches are not twisted.
Note:To avoid twisted stitches, make sure the cast-on edge is going around the inside of the needle.
