4 Continue until you have several stitches holding the button in place. With the
yarn pulled through to the front of the fabric, but not through the button,
wrap the yarn around the button stitches—between the back of the button
and the front of the knitting—a few times. Then insert the needle back
through the knitting to the wrong side.

FAQ
My yarn is too thick to use to sew on my button. I would like
to use thread, but the knot at the end keeps coming through
the knitting. Is there something I can do to prevent this?
Yes. First, tie a knot in the end of your thread. Then insert the needle
under the V where you want the button to be sewn and reinsert the
needle between the strands near the knot. Pull it tight to secure the
thread. Be sure to move the thread ends near the knot to the wrong
side of your work and cut them short so they look tidy.
