HAT BODY
1 CO 48 (54, 60) sts, dividing sts evenly over three dpns.
2 Place marker for beg of rnd, join rnd, taking care not to
twist sts, and knit every rnd until hat measures 4^3 ⁄ 4 (5^1 ⁄ 2 ,
61 ⁄ 4 ) inches from beg.

Note:In this pattern you decrease by using k2tog (see page 54).
1 Round 1: K6 (7, 8), k2tog; rep from to end of rnd—42
(48, 54) sts.
2 Round 2: Knit.
3 Round 3: K5 (6, 7), k2tog; rep from to end of rnd—36
(42, 48) sts.
4 Round 4: Knit.
5 Round 5: K4 (5, 6), k2tog; rep from to end of rnd—30
(36, 42) sts.
6 Continue as established, dec 6 sts, evenly spaced, every
other rnd until 12 sts rem. Knit 1 rnd.
7 Next round: K2tog around—6 sts.
8 Knit 1 rnd.
9 Last round: K2tog around—3 sts.
FINISHING
1 Cut yarn, leaving an 8-inchtail. Pull tail through last 3
sts and secure.
2 Weave in end at brim, using it to secure the joining of
the first rnd, if necessary.
3 Steam hat to block.
