HAT BODY


1 CO 74 (82, 90, 98) sts in A.


2 Beg with row 1, work in rib patt and, AT THE SAME TIME, work stripe patt, as
follows:
10 (10, 12, 14) rows in A
2 rows in B
8 rows in A
4 (6, 6, 8) rows in B
4 (6, 6, 8) rows in A
8 rows in B
2 rows in A
2 rows in B


How to Make the Striped Rib Hat

SHAPE TOP


Note:Work in B for rem of hat.


1 Row 1 (RS): Still using B, k2, p2tog, k2; rep from to
end—56 (62, 68, 74) sts.


2 Row 2 (WS): P2, k1, p2; rep from to end.


3 Row 3: K2tog, p1, K2tog; rep from to end—37 (41, 45, 49) sts.


4 Row 4: P3tog; rep from across, end p1 (2, 0, 1)—13 (15, 15, 17) sts.


5 Row 5: K2tog; rep from across, end k1—7 (8, 8, 9) sts.


FINISHING


1 Cut yarn, leaving a tail long enough to sew the back seam. Pull tail through
rem 7 (8, 8, 9) sts and tighten.


2 Sew the back seam, carefully running the seam 1 st in from edge on each side so that the rib looks even.


3 Weave in ends.


4 Lightly steam to block, pulling rib out a bit to flatten—but not so much that the hat is too stretched out.
