MITTEN CUFF


1 CO 20 (24, 28, 32) sts, dividing sts evenly over three dpns.


2 Place marker, join rnd, taking care not to twist sts, and work in K2, p2 rib
every rnd for 2^1 ⁄ 2 (3, 3^1 ⁄ 2 , 4) inches.


3 Change to St st (knit every rnd) and work for 2 rnds.


SHAPE THUMB GUSSET


Note:In this pattern you increase by using the bar increase (see page 48).


1 Next rnd: Inc 1 st in first st of rnd, inc 1 st in next st of rnd, k to end—22
(26, 30, 34) sts.


2 Knit 1 (1, 2, 2) rnds.


3 Next rnd: Inc 1 st in first st of rnd, k2, inc 1 st in next st of rnd, k to end—24
(28, 32, 36) sts.


4 Knit 1 (1, 2, 2) rnds.


5 Next rnd: Inc 1 st in first st of rnd, k4, inc 1 st in next st, k to end—26
(30, 34, 38) sts.


6 Knit 1 (2, 2, 2) rnds.


7 Next rnd: Inc 1 st in first st of rnd, k6, inc 1 st in next st, k to end—28
(32, 36, 40) sts.


8 Knit 1 (2, 2, 2) rnds.


9 Next rnd (S, M, and L only): Inc 1 st in first st, k8, inc 1 st in next st—28
(34, 38, 42) sts.


0 All sizes: Knit 0 (1, 2, 2) rnds.


!Next rnd: Slip first 8 (10, 10, 10) sts onto holder for thumb.


MITTEN BODY


1 Join rnd with rem 20 (24, 28, 32) sts for hand.


2 Knit every rnd until mitten is about 1 inch shorter than desired length.
