Teach Yourself Visually Knitting

(Michael S) #1

When you’re knitting something for someone, it’s like you’re weaving your love and good
wishes into every stitch. You can do this for people you don’t know by knitting for charity. Whether
you’re knitting hats, booties, and blankets for your local hospital, or comfortable throws for shut-
ins, you will find tremendous satisfaction in donating your hand-knits to a worthy cause. Listed
here are just a few organizations that accept donations.

CAPS FOR KIDS
Caps for Kids collects hand-knit caps
and scarves for babies and children
undergoing cancer treatment and
treatment for other life-threatening
illnesses. Many yarn shops collect
items for Caps for Kids. To find a
registered store near you, call the
Craft Yarn Council at 800-662-9999,
or visit the Caps for Kids Web site,
at http://www.capsforkids.com. If you
can’t find a store near you that
accepts donations, you can send
your donations to:

WARM UP AMERICA
You can knit a 7 x 9-inchrectangle
and donate it to Warm Up America.
Warm Up America collects these
hand-knit or crocheted rectangles and
assembles them into afghans, which it
then donates to the homeless, disaster victims, and shelters for battered women. These afghans have brought warmth
and comfort to many people in need. For more information, visit http://www.warmupamerica.com.
