Pick Up Your Needles and... chapter 16

THE CHILDREN’S AND
TEENS’ KNITTING GROUP
A wonderful outcome of knitting’s
growth in popularity has been the
formation of after-school knitting
groups. Children of all ages are taking
up knitting. It’s a great opportunity for
them to create, relax, do a little bit of
simple math, get a little hand–eye
coordination practice, and tune their
fine motor skills. Check at your local
schools to see if a knitting group
exists, and, if not, why not start one?

THE GOURMET KNITTING
GROUP

Another fun group is the gourmet
knitting group. Many knitters are
excellent cooks who love to share
recipes as well as knitting patterns.
Why not get together a small group
and have a monthly potluck? Brunch
is a good meal that provides the
opportunity to test all kinds of
recipes—both savory and sweet—and
also leaves the afternoon open for
knitting.

THE MOVIE NIGHT KNITTING GROUP
Many knitters do the bulk of their knitting while watching movies on TV. Getting together a group of knitters to do just
that is even more fun. Have a little show-and-tell about knitting projects before and after the movie. And don’t forget
the popcorn.
