SIMPLE SEED STITCH


Simple seed stitch is a good allover pattern for sweaters, vests, and dresses. You
work it over a multiple of 4 stitches plus 1 (that is, 9, 13, 17, and so on).


1 Row 1 (right side): Purl 1, knit 3, purl 1; repeat from to end.


2 Row 2 (wrong side): Purl.


3 Row 3: Knit.


4 Row 4: Purl.


5 Row 5: Knit 2, purl 1, knit 3, purl 1; repeat from to last 2 stitches, knit 2.


6 Row 6: Purl.


7 Row 7: Knit.


8 Row 8: Purl.


9 Repeat rows 1–8 for simple seed stitch.

BOX STITCH


Box stitch looks the same on both sides and lies flat. You work this pattern on a
multiple of 4 stitches plus 2 (that is, 6, 10, 14, and so on).


1 Row 1 (right side): Knit 2, purl 2, knit 2; repeat from to end of row.


2 Row 2 (wrong side): Purl 2, knit 2, purl 2; repeat from to end of row.


3 Row 3: Repeat row 2.


4 Row 4: Repeat row 1.


5 Repeat rows 1–4 for box stitch.
