Teach Yourself Visually Knitting

(Michael S) #1

If you make an error that is more than one row down from where you are cur-
rently working, you need to unravel row by row.

1 Slide the stitches off the needle and pull the working yarn until you have
unraveled the desired number of rows.

2 Using a needle that is smaller in diameter than the working needle, carefully
slide the stitches back onto that needle. Take care not to twist the stitches
when you put them back onto the needle.
You can now resume knitting with the working needles.

How to Unravel Row by Row

TIP
A Safer Way to Unravel
To avoid dropping stitches as you unravel, you can use another method: You can weave a needle that
is smaller in diameter than the working needles in and out of the stitches in the row below the point to
which you would like to unravel (a). You need to be sure the needle goes under the right side of each
stitch and over the left side of each stitch. When the entire row is on the needle, you pull the working
yarn to unravel the rows above the needle (b). You can then resume knitting with the working needles.
