Poring Over the Picture
My mantra about lighting is this: βTo create interesting light, you have to create
interesting shadows. So look at the light and think about the shadows.β In this shot
of a lacquered ball, the shadows tell you everything about the lighting: the number
of lights, their locations, and their size relative to the subject.

Two Speedlites
and Apollo softbox
The soft edges of this shadow
reveal that this light source was
much larger than the ball. I used
a Westcott Apollo softbox (with
a Speedlite inside) to allow the
light to wrap around the ball.
