You’ll need to sign up for a
free account online, but
RescueTime Lite (www.
rescuetime.com) can do what
you want of it. Once signed up,
download the client and let it
run in the background. Use
the program’s Notification
area icon to access reports via
your browser.toolbox and choose ‘Force
Uninstall’ instead, clicking Browse
to select the program’s main
executable file from either the
Program Files or Program Files (x86)
folders. From here IObit Uninstaller
will attempt to remove the
program manually and clean up as

Q I feel a bit of a fool. My ageing
laptop has suddenly stopped
booting and I need to recover data
from the hard drive having not
recently backed up. Is this possible,

Thomas revealed the
laptop wouldn’t even
boot as far as the initial
start-up screen, which gave us
hope the drive inside was both
recoverable and reusable. The
laptop was Thomas’s secondary
machine, and he confirmed he’d
like to continue using the 500GB
drive as backup, so we pointed him
in the direction of an inexpensive
2.5-inch drive enclosure (search
eBay for ‘Orico 2.5-inch enclosure’- currently around £7). He then
physically removed the drive from
the laptop, mounted it in the new
enclosure and connected it to his
desktop PC.
The drive appeared in Windows,
complete with all data intact.
Thomas encountered an ‘Access
Denied’ error attempting to open
his user folder – clicking ‘Continue’
resolved this problem by giving his
user account both read and write
access to the drive. We also advised
him to take a fail-safe drive image
backup of the laptop drive using
Macrium Reflect, which he stored
