Choosing a color space - Step 5
Elements users do not get a choice in the RAW dialog box as to the color space the image will
be opened in when OK is selected. The color space of the resulting image is determined by
the Color Settings in the software preferences. If full Color Management has been selected the
image will have the Adobe RGB color space embedded. If No Color Management or Limited Color
Management is selected the image will acquire the sRGB color space. For images destined for
print the preferred option is Full Color Management.
Photoshop CS/CS2 users can choose the profi le that suits their current workfl ow. A new addition
to the list is ProPhoto. This is a wide gamut color space and is the default editing space used by
the camera RAW plug-in.
Note > The ProPhoto color space is suitable for users who are intending to stay in 16 Bits/
Channel for the entire editing process and who have access to a print output device with a
broader color gamut than traditional CMYK devices are capable of offering.
Save or open - Step 6
When you have optimized the image you can either open the image into the main editing space
of your Adobe software or save the image as a PSD, TIFF or JPEG with your optimized settings.
The Save dialog box also gives the user access to Adobe’s DNG (Digital NeGative) format which
is a useful format for archiving your RAW fi les due to its lossless compression and its long term
support by Adobe.
