3.2. FURTHER INFLECTIONS 117

3.2.6 Desire.

First person desirative:

Unlike the previous constructions starting with the syllable , this inflec-
tion doesn’t involve a classical helper verb, but a helper adjective,
(which has a kanji form, , but this is not used in modern Japanese).
This also means that unlike the previous - , - , - and construc-
tions, no contractions occur with verbs, which makes forming the first
persondesirativevery easy. Since this is an adjective, rather than a verb, it
has a slightly different set of bases for further conjugation, but formation
is still the same: +.
