EXPOSED, SEMI-EXPOSED, and CONCEALED surfaces shall be as listed under BASIC
CONSIDERATIONS of this section.

4.1.6 For the purpose of this standard, a BALANCED PANEL is one that is free from warp that affects serviceability
for its intended purpose.

4.1.7

At SOLID-SURFACE and EPOXY RESIN, fabrication shall be performed by personnel properly trained and
approved/certified by the applicable manufacturer.
4.1.8 SURFACING with grain and/or pattern shall be installed with the grain or pattern direction running length-wise.
4.1.9 EXPOSED FASTENING IS PROHIBITED, except for access panels.

4.1.10 Where requested.FIRE-RETARDANT or MOISTURE-RESISTANT core is required, documentation shall be furnished, if

If HOT MELT applied, HPDL edgebanding is not applied with a hot-melt adhesive formulated for its application;
the laminate shall be primed before application.
4.1.12 Where GLUING or LAMINATION occurs:
4.1.12.1 DELAMINATION or SEPARATION shall not occur beyond what is allowed in Sections 3 & 4.
4.1.13 FIRST-CLASS WORKMANSHIP is required in compliance with these standards.

At EXPOSED SURFACES:
4.2.1.1 Shall be free of manufacturing defects.
4.2.1.2 TRANSPARENT FINISHED WOOD:
4.2.1.2.1 Permits hardwood or softwood.
4.2.1.2.2 Permits only one species for the entire project. MM
4.2.1.2.3 Adjacent veneer and lumber shall be:
4.2.1.2.3.1 Mill option species. M
4.2.1.2.3.2 Compatible for color and grain. M
4.2.1.2.3.3 Well-matched for color and grain. M
4.2.1.2.4 Have visible EDGES, REVEALS, and/or SPLINES, when appropriate, that:
4.2.1.2.4.1 Are full length.
4.2.1.2.4.2 Are MILL-OPTION. M
4.2.1.2.4.3 MATCH the species of the panel face. MM
4.2.1.2.4.4 Are COMPATIBLE for color and grain. M
4.2.1.2.4.5 Are WELL-MATCHED for color and grain. M

Are a minimum of 0.020” (0.5 mm) nominal THICKNESS
that precludes show-through of core. MM

4.2.2 When coat at 1 mil dry.FACTORY FINISHING is specified, concealed surfaces shall be factory sealed with one MM

4.2.3 At CONCEALED SURFACES shall allow defects, and:
4.2.3.1 Blocking, fillers, and shim stock may be of any sound material.
4.2.4 At WOOD shall be:

3/4” (19 mm) minimum thickness hardwood (plywood or solid stock) of one species for the entire
project.

At HPDL:
4.2.5.1 Shall be general-purpose HPDL, a minimum of .048” (1.2 mm) in thickness, or:
4.2..5.1.1 0.042” (1.05 mm) post-forming grade, if required.
