MATERIAL - HPDL (High-Pressure Decorative Laminate) shall:


4.2c.1 Be constructed (in conformance with NEMA LD3 [latest edition]) of multiple layers of phenolic resin-
saturated kraft paper in combination with a layer of decorative melamine-saturated paper, all fused together
under heat and pressure with the following minimum performance properties, and:

Laminate types are abbreviated as “HGS/L” and “VGS/L” for horizontal and vertical general
purpose; “HGP” and“ VGP” for post-forming; “HGF” for fire-rated, “CLS” for cabinet liner; and
“BKL” for backer in accordance with latest NEMA usage.

4.2c.3 Have CORE optional with manufacturer, within the provisions of these standards.
4.2c.4 Be within the THICKNESS range of:
4.2c.4.1 HORIZONTAL - 0.028" to 0.048" (0.71 mm to 1.22 mm)
4.2c.4.2 VERTICAL - 0.028" to 0.048" (0.71 mm to 1.22 mm)
4.2c.4.3 POST-FORMING - 0.028" to 0.039" (0.71 mm to 0.99 mm)
4.2c.4.4 BACKER - 0.016" to 0.048" (0.51 mm to 1.22 mm)
4.2c.4.5 CABINET LINER - 0.016" to 0.048" (0.51 mm to 1.22 mm)
4.2c.5 If FIRE-RATED required:
4.2c.5.1 Be CLASS 1.
4.2c.5.2 Have minimum 0.028" (0.71 mm) thick BACKING SHEET.

4.2c.5.3 Be BONDED with a Class 1, ridged set adhesive.
