Barbie Liberation Organization (BLO) is a legendary
shopdropping group. In their most famous action they performed
toy surgery and switched voice chips on Barbie and G.I. Joe
toys, shifting their gender stereotyped roles and reversing their
“embodiment of sexism”. They put the modified toys back in
the shelves for distribution before Christmas. To perform such
an action it is important to find the type of toys that have the
same voice box. This made the Mattell hack simple, otherwise
the technical difficulties would have been too big. BLO also
published a manual of how to perform a more difficult hack so
others could engage and develop this shopdropping method.
