Examples of Analytical Problems and Procedures
The choice and development of an analytical procedure will involve several identifiable stages. Firstly,
it is essential to define the problem, and to this end the following questions are a guide.
- What should be determined?
- What is the expected concentration range?
- What degree of precision and accuracy is required?
- What are the other components of the sample, and will they interfere?
- What is the physical condition of the sample?
- How many samples are to be analysed, and is there any scope for automation?
Only with these questions answered and a sound knowledge of the available techniques and methods is
it possible to devise a satisfactory procedure.
