Integrating technology systems in buildings is analogous to a data network
in that there is a “core” network in which there is commonality in the physical
connectivity and the way that the systems communicate. Outside of the core
network are various devices and controllers made by different manufacturers
with different capabilities and functions. This type of standardization has
significant functional and cost implications which comprise the foundation
of the deployment and benefits of smart building technologies.
