Smart Buildings Systems for Architects, Owners and Builders

(ff) #1
n Academic building
n Central plant
n Student recreation center

The essential technical foundations for the specification of the building
technology systems were mutlifaceted:

n The systems had to utilize industry standards and an open architecture
capable of both integrating and interfacing various systems, networking
hardware and software from different manufacturers. This prevented
the installation of proprietary mechanical, electrical, and communica-
tions systems.
n The systems had to maximize the use of a common structured cabling
infrastructure.
n The number of network communications protocols had to be mini-
mized with the preferred open protocols being TCP/IP and Lonworks.
n The systems had to be provided with full-featured administration and
management systems, allowing for management both locally and via a
web browser.

The building technology systems deployed follow:

n Campus backbone data network
n Building data networks
n VoIP telephone system
n Network operations center
n Access control system
n Video surveillance system
n Audio visual systems
n Programmable lighting control system
n Fire alarm system
n HVAC control system
n Energy management system
n Electric power management system
n Campus cable systems
n Facility cabling systems
