to catch up, they still have a long way to go if
they’re going to give Tesla a run for its money;
great news for shareholders.

WHAT’S ON THE INSIDE

It’s the internals of Tesla vehicles that really
gets people talking. Back in 2015, the company
set off its semi-self-driving system and began
trialing a full-self-driving service. Although this is
yet to fully launch, we’re closer than ever before.
All hopes had been set on a 2020 launch for
self-driving technology, though the pandemic
slowed down the release and governments
have lobbied over the safety of such vehicles.
What’s particularly attractive about Tesla,
though, is that all new Tesla cars come standard
with advanced hardware capable of providing
Autopilot features today, and full self-driving
capabilities in the future—through software
updates designed to improve functionality
over time. Each EV is equipped with eight
surround cameras which provide 360 degrees
of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters
of range, as well as 12 updated ultrasonic
sensors complement it, allowing for detection
of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the
distance of the prior system. EVs also come with
forward-facing radars with enhanced processing,
which provides additional data about the world
on a redundant wavelength that is able to see
through heavy rain, fog, dust, and even the car
ahead, and whilst this technology is still turned
off by default on new vehicles, a new onboard
computer with over 40 times the computing
power of the previous generation runs the new
Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar
and radar processing software. The company
