About Greenwatch
Greenwatch is an environmental rights advocacy organization established in 1995 in Kampala
with the aim of promoting public participation in the sustainable use, management and protection
of the environment and natural resources and in the enforcement of the right to a clean and
healthy environment.
At Greenwatch, we advocate for the enforcement of and compliance with environmental laws and
principles through training which results in increased environmental awareness. We review and
analyse Environment Impact Assessment (EIAs) of development projects with a likelihood of
impacting on the environment negatively; a process which aims at influencing policy making for
good environmental governance in Uganda.
We support community initiatives through dissemination of information on environmental rights
and laws for effective participation in decision making; conduct research and training for
government officials and encourage access to information, justice in the enforcement of
environmental rights through strategic Public Interest Litigation.
