before applying anymore. Repeat the above process five or six times to get a good finish. After the
third application of Tung oil go over the complete stock with triple 0 steel wool. Polishes stock down
good to remove all the surface oil. This will leave the oil in the grain of the wood.

  1. Applied three or more coats of Tung oil, and steel wool lightly between applications. When you apply
the final coats you'll get a light gloss finish that you can leave as is or polish with the triple 0 steel wool.

  2. To finish off the stock I use a good taste floor wax that will protect the wood even further. About every
year I apply another coat of wax. There are other finish that you can use that are described below. Use
the above process from one to six to get the stock ready to finish. Then you can apply any type of finish
    that you like.

FLINT PAPER

Flint paper is the lowest price of all the sandpaper, but it loses its cutting qualities very quickly.
However, for certain types of work like sand papering to remove an old finish, I would use Flint paper as
it will do a good job. The reason for using Flint paper is that the old finish will clog the coating very
quickly anyway. Therefore, the cheapest paper is the most economical. Flint paper are available as
both cabinet papers and finishing papers. The cabinet papers range from very course to find. The
finishing papers range from fine to extra fine. You will need mostly medium grit for removing the finish
and fine for finishing out the stock. However, other grits may be used depending upon the type of
standing being done

GARNET PAPERS

There are many decided advantages both in lasting qualities and in cutting qualities of garnet papers.
Coated papers have gained much in popularity during the recent years. The garnet paper gets his
name from the mineral that is use as a the abrasive coating. You can easily recognized in by its color, a
tawny red cast. This mineral is noted for it's hard, sharp texture. It is one of the best available abrasive
for fast cutting on either a raw wood surface or a finish surface.

Both cabinet papers and finishing papers are available with this mineral coating. The craftsman will find
that the large choice in grit makes it suitable for any type of standing work. The grits range from No. 2
(very course) to No. 7/0 (very fine). This paper is durable, strong, and economical to use. If you have
been accustomed to using Flint paper for all your standing, try garnet paper instead and you'll discover
its advantages for yourself.

ALUMINUM OXIDE PAPER

Aluminum oxide paper is greatly replacing garnet paper heads and abrasive in wood finishing. This
paper is coated electrically with a metallic oxide. It has a grayish color, and as a finishing paper, it is
superior to the others because of its fast cutting action and long-lasting qualities. It can be used when
standing July, barns, or other lacquer services. The grits or coarseness ranges from very fine (320A) to
medium course (100). No. 200 is recommended for finishing standing.
