WET-OR-DRY SILICONE CARBIDE PAPER

This is a synthetic abrasive new grains are very sharp and irregular, thus assuring a very fast cutting
action. The grains are crystals are coated on the paper electrically, thereby making the abrasive
waterproof. This is rather important from the finishers point of view, since he now has a paper that can
be soaked in water before being used. Soaking the paper and water or in a solvent such as benzene
makes it cuts quicker and easier. Silicone carbide paper is use essentially for fine standing. It is use
where an extra fine smooth surface is required on raw wood or in sanding or rubbing the finish coats.
The grains range from very fine (No. 400) to fine (No. 200).

HOW TO USE SANDPAPER

You will find after finishing wood for a while that there is an art in sanding. Although it is considered a
very tedious job, it can be done whale and easily FAQs simple rules are followed. You must remember
at the outset that assess of your finishing job whale began largely upon the care you exercise in sanding.

Tear a 9 by 11 inch sheet of sandpaper into quarters 4 1/2 by 5 and 1/2 inch sizes. This size makes the
sandpaper easier to handle both when sanding with a block and when sanding with the palm of your
hand. Limber up the sandpaper by rolling the paper side of the paper over the edge of your bench or
chair. This step softens the paper, and makes it more pliable which helps prevent it from tearing when
being used. When standing a flat surface, provide yourself with a block large enough to fit the palm of
your hand. However, when finishing gun stocks there will be very few flat areas on the stock to sand.
You can buy rubber standing locks at most hardware stores or Wal-Mart. The rubber sanding block has
enough flexibility that it will better yet slightly curved areas of the stock.

FLAT SURFACES

Assuming that you have selected the correct paper for the sanding operation, you can now if start to
sandpaper to surface in straight even strokes following the grains. You should never under any
conditions sandpaper across the grains. Continue the operation using a medium grit until every trace of
imperfection has been removed. When you come to the end of the wood be very careful that you don't let
the sandpaper rollover and round the end of the wood. Occasionally check your sandpaper and block to
make sure that no chips have embedded themselves in the paper or between the block and paper.

If any chips remaining, they will produce deep scratches on the surface as your sanding. From time to
time for a the sandpaper best from the sandpaper by hitting the block against the edge of your bench,
which you will find by doing is it will increase the cutting action of the sandpaper.

Turn the paper around the block from time to time to share or even wearing of the paper. Apply enough
pressure to your block to obtain bid cutting, but never so much that assess the friction and he results.
Avoid tearing the paper while sanding. This often happens when your sandpaper touches the sharp
edges of your work. They slowly even stroke will prevent this unnecessary waste of paper.
