LeonoraCarringtonwasborninLancashire,England,in1917.Whenshewas
fourshestartedpaintingandwasentirelyself-taughtuntil,attheageofnineteen,
shestudiedattheOzenfantAcademyinLondon,acquiringtechnicalskillthereby.
Herearliertrainingwascompletelyrevolutionized,however,bycontactwiththe
SurrealistsinParis.ThoughconsideredanEnglishwriterandpainter,shehaslived

wereofageintheI93n"s,healsopaintedfortheW.P..A.During 1951 hewasresident
artistattheUniversityofGeorgia.
Variousprizesforoil,watercolor,andlithographyhavecomehisway.Chapin's
BlaekBullwonFirstPrizeinaChicagoartists'exhibitionin1950.Hisworkhas
beenexhibitedwidelyinthiscountryand hasappearedattheTateGalleryin
